Meet Bob the Lector

Howdy! I’m Bob the Lector (no relation to Bob the Builder). I’m a cradle Catholic – altar server, Catholic school graduate, and longtime lector since my college days. My dad was a South Dakota farm boy, and my mom was an Ohio farm girl who met at a Lawrence Welk dance in Santa Monica, then raised their seven kids in Southern California. I’m 30+ years married, with four adult daughters and one grandson—yes, I finally got my boy; it just took another generation! Over the decades, I’ve come to love the lector ministry and feel called to help others proclaim God’s Word with confidence and meaning.
This podcast isn’t about me – it’s about you, the lector. It’s for lectors preparing the Sunday readings, offering guidance, reflection, and encouragement to deliver the Good News in a way that kindles and rekindles our faith in Jesus Christ. We’ve been given the privilege and responsibility to speak for God. That may sound overwhelming, but the words are His; your calling is to bring them to life.
When you stand at the ambo, you speak to every soul in the pews: the joyful, the grieving, the lost, and the searching. You have the power to be Good News to them – right where they are.
That’s why I created Bob the Lector – to help you proclaim Scripture in a way that transforms your listeners. Each week, I will deliver two episodes for the following week: one for each Reading. Each offers my reading and reflection, along with guidance on pace, tone, and delivery. My dream is to empower you to find your authentic voice so when people hear you proclaim God’s Word, they leave Mass different than when they arrived.
So, step up to the ambo and say, “A Reading from…” — and give voice to God’s Word.
